Bodyscape is a painting in which I reference pornographic images found online and historical art of rococo to change power relations in historical, visual culture and represent them from a perspective of a feminine, female bodied person. Regarding the basis of painting’s figure and ground format, I placed female genitalia—as figure—separated from the body. That is, in the ground of not a human body, in this case among the clouds, to think about body parts away from their everyday context and the significations that habitual normality might evoke, as well as explore the essentialist idea of mother nature who gives birth, life and protection to humanity. I see vulvae as symbols of contradiction: life and death, beginnings and ends, transgression and obedience.
